GreenRacing team recently came across an interesting product that may make a difference in changing the environmentally un-friendly stereotype that motorsports gets. The news came in when the American Le Mans Series named the Green Earth Technologies’ G-OIL as their official motor oil, which will be used in the next two years in all of the ALMS/IMSA safety vehicles (click here for press release.)
According to Green Earth Technologies, G-OIL is unlike their conventional petroleum-derived counterparts, where a patent pending technology is used to make the oil from saturated animal fats. Apparently, this makes a good lubricant while also being biodegradable. Even the containers will be fully recyclable! So what does this mean for us racetrack junkies? It means while you can still drive as hard as you want, if not harder, you can even protect your engine better with G-OIL’s acclaimed superior lubricating properties over the conventional oils. What’s better is that you will be contributing to the environment with this green product – another legit reason for you to tell the family when you decide to race :)
But the big question for all of us is if we’re willing to risk out motors just to be green. To answer that question, we are in the process of acquiring samples to test on our project S2000. Keep coming back to find out the answer!
